Realistic Quark and Lepton Masses Through SO(10) Symmetry

چکیده
In a recent paper a model of quark and lepton masses was proposed. Without any family symmetries almost all the qualitative and quantitative features of the quark and lepton masses and KobayashiMaskawa mixing angles are explained, primarily as consequences of various aspects of SO(10) symmetry. Here the model is discussed in much greater detail. The threefold mass hierarchy as well as the relations mτ ≃ mb , mμ ≃ 3ms, me ≃ 13md, mu/mt ≪ md/mb , tanθC ≃ √

Predicting neutrino parameters from SO(3) family symmetry and quark-lepton unification
We show how the neutrino mixing angles and oscillation phase can be predicted from tri-bimaximal neutrino mixing, corrected by charged lepton mixing angles which are related to quark mixing angles via quark-lepton unification. The tribimaximal neutrino mixing can naturally originate from the see-saw mechanism via constrained sequential dominance (CSD), where CSD can result from the vacuum align...
متن کاملSymmetries and fermion masses
We discuss whether quark, charged lepton and neutrino masses and mixing angles may be related by an extended flavour and family symmetry group. We show that current measurements of all fermion masses and mixing angles are consistent with a combination of an underlying SU(3) family symmetry together with a GUT symmetry such as SO(10). In this the near bi-maximal mixing observed in the neutrino s...
متن کاملFlavor without Flavor Symmetry
Non-trivial patterns of quark and lepton masses and mixings can arise without there being any underlying flavor symmetry that distinguishes among the three families. Two realistic examples are given.
متن کاملMinimal Mixing of Quarks and Leptons in the SU ( 3 ) Theory of Flavour
We argue that flavour mixing, both in the quark and lepton sector, follows the minimal mixing pattern, according to which the whole of this mixing is basically determined by the physical mass generation for the first family of fermions. So, in the chiral symmetry limit when the masses of the lightest (u and d) quarks vanish, all the quark mixing angles vanish. This minimal pattern is shown to f...
متن کاملWhere does Flavour Mixing come from ?
We argue that flavour mixing, both in the quark and charged lepton sector, is basically determined by the lightest family mass generation mechanism. So, in the chiral symmetry limit when the up and down quark masses vanish, all the quark mixing angles vanish. This mechanism is not dependent on the number of quark-lepton families nor on any " vertical " symmetry structure, unifying quarks and le...
